Kusoma

Terms and Conditions

Last updated: April 2026

1. About Kusoma

Kusoma ("we", "us", "our") is an interactive e-learning platform designed for primary-school learners following Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). The platform is available as a web application, a Progressive Web App, and a mobile application on Android (with iOS coming soon).

By creating an account or using any part of the Kusoma platform you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

2. Account Roles

Kusoma supports the following account roles, each with distinct responsibilities and access levels:

  • Parent / Guardian — Creates an account, registers one or more learners, manages subscriptions, and monitors each learner's academic progress.
  • Teacher — Creates a free account, receives a unique Teacher Code, and gains read-only access to the progress of learners whose parents have linked them using that code.
  • School Administrator (coming soon) — Oversees teachers within a school via a unique School Code.
  • Learner — A child registered under a parent/guardian account who accesses educational content exclusively through the mobile app using a Learner Code and PIN provided by the parent. Learners do not create their own accounts.

3. Eligibility and Registration

  • Parent/guardian accounts must be created by an adult (18 years or older) who has legal authority over the learner(s) they register.
  • Learner profiles may be created for children of any age, including children under 13. The parent/guardian assumes full responsibility for the learner's use of the platform and consents to the collection of learning activity data on the child's behalf.
  • The parent provides the child with a Learner Code and PIN to access the mobile app and is responsible for the safekeeping of these credentials.
  • Teacher accounts are free of charge. Teachers must provide a valid email address for verification.
  • All users must provide accurate information during registration. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure.
  • You may not create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.

4. Teacher Code and Class Linking

  • Each teacher receives a unique, auto-generated Teacher Code upon registration.
  • Parents may optionally enter a Teacher Code when registering or editing a learner, linking that learner to the teacher's class.
  • A learner may be linked to multiple teachers. Parents can remove a teacher link at any time from their dashboard.
  • Teachers can view the following data for linked learners: display name, grade level, curriculum, XP earned, lesson completions, quiz scores, mastery bands, last activity date, and the parent/guardian's name and email address.
  • Teachers must not share learner or parent data with unauthorised third parties.

5. Subscriptions and Payment

  • The parent/guardian is the sole billing party. You pay for the number of learner profiles that are active under your account. Extra learners cost less than the first child. Adding a learner mid-cycle is billed only for the remaining days of the current period.
  • New parent accounts receive a 14-day free trial with unlimited learner slots. After the trial you must subscribe to continue.
  • Subscriptions are offered in monthly and annual billing cycles. Annual billing includes a discount. All prices are in Kenyan Shillings (KES) and are displayed on the Kusoma website.
  • Payments are processed by Paystack and support M-Pesa, card, and Apple Pay.
  • Teacher accounts are completely free and do not require payment.
  • Pricing may change with 30 days' notice. Existing subscribers keep their current rate until the end of their billing period.
  • You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Learner data is preserved.
  • If a payment fails, a 3-day grace period applies before learner access is paused.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to other users' accounts or data.
  • Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download content from the platform.
  • Upload malicious content or interfere with the platform's operation.
  • Share your Teacher Code or School Code publicly without understanding that anyone who uses it can link learners to your class.

7. Mobile App Usage

  • The Kusoma mobile app is the primary learning surface for children. It provides access to lessons, interactive activities, quizzes, animations, and audio narration.
  • Content is delivered via cached bundles that allow the app to work offline. Progress data syncs to our servers when the device is online.
  • The app tracks lesson completions, subject progress, quiz scores, XP, and time-on-task. This data is visible to the parent from their web dashboard and to any linked teachers.
  • The mobile app does not include in-app purchases, advertising, social features, chat, messaging, or user-generated content.
  • The parent is responsible for ensuring the child uses the app appropriately and for supervising access where needed.

8. Intellectual Property

All content on the Kusoma platform — including lessons, illustrations, animations, quizzes, and interactive activities — is owned by Kusoma or its licensors and protected by copyright law. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from this content without our prior written permission.

9. Data and Privacy

Your use of Kusoma is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect personal data — including detailed protections for children under 13. By using the platform, you consent to the data practices described therein.

10. Account Suspension and Termination

  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
  • You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected]. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
  • Deletion of a parent account will also remove all associated learner profiles.

11. Disclaimers

  • Kusoma is provided "as is". We strive for accuracy in curriculum content but do not guarantee that it is error-free.
  • We are not liable for any learning outcomes, exam results, or decisions made based on platform data.
  • Service availability may be interrupted for maintenance or technical issues.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kusoma's total liability to you for any claims arising from the use of the platform shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notification. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Kenya. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.
